“Thought Conduit”
(Installation using wood, gilding wax, florescent light, wax, wax paper, golden gimp yarn, duct tape, metal wires)
In my most recent installation, I have created a thought conduit: an object made with the intention of collecting the thoughts of its surroundings and channeling it through itself to further disperse the energy. There are thousands of these objects in the world and they are made daily by all sorts of people for all sorts of different reasons, but their existence connects them with one another and with both the creators and observers. Sometimes these objects are as simple as a dishcloth knitted for a friend, or a prayer said over rosary beads, or even just hugging someone for as long as they let you. In this installation I created an object made with meticulous motions and thousands of strands of yarn, that allows the viewer to interact in the space with the object in a visible and physical way. I sought to denote these energy paths that are created when something is created in this fashion.
