In one of my most recent installation works, I continued on my water series after almost a year since I completed my last iteration of the series. In this wall installation I have laser cut plywood panels based off of my previous paintings and then spay-painted metallic gold onto several different surfaces that I hand-marbled. The hand marbling is a process that I have derived from Chinese painting and from western marbeling techniques using a mixture of acrylic ink and Chinese pigment. Then, the work is installed on a wall and the laser cut outs flow in the negative space between the papers. This is another exploration into the continuity of all things; that the same golden energy flows between people and objects of different cloth with the same intensity. I believe the next step in this process is to explore the actual laser cut shapes themselves and create a more sculptural painting as opposed to the flat marbled paintings. I want to try to “marble” air and create the delicate images flowing into space.
