“Tri-Colored Phobia”

Recently, I have been interested in Mircea Eliade’s idea of a hierophany which is from the Greek roots “ἱερός” (hieros), meaning “sacred” or “holy,” and “φαίνειν” (phainein) meaning “to reveal” or “to bring to light” signifies a manifestation of the sacred. I have been interested in created installation based work that centers around allowing the art object to present itself to be sacred, elevating it in our consciousness and thought. However, by fabricating the situation and “forcing” a revelation, the idea becomes a contradiction and a fallacy and enters into the area of propaganda. Realizing this, I made a conscious effort to “propagate” authentically, elevating these banal objects to a place of supposed reverence in order to call into question the reverence of any object that has not presented itself to be sacred. By creating a reverence and unknown doctrine around objects, it removes any context and feelings that we would have around them to allow for an unbiased processing of information.
